One day one of the more-or-less permanent volunteers from Hawaii brought out a huge router and a jig which he proceeded to screw to the deck over some rotted planking.  He then routed out the plank ends and squared off the corners with a chisel.  I watched him do a couple and went over and said "I can do that."  From then on I owned the router!  After I found someone to follow along behind and square off the corners, I was set.
