Outside of the town of Twizel, we hiked to Hooker Lake with a promise of spectacular views of New Zealand's highest peak, Mount Cook. Fat chance!  The locals say it is clouded over most of the time.  We did get a much more distant view of Mount Cook a day or so later, though.
