Our early arrival in Kinsale gave us a whole day to explore on our
own. We hiked the some 2 miles from downtown Kinsale to Charles Fort, a 17th
century fort built by the British to defend Kinsale harbor against the
Spanish and French. It a beautiful and well preserved star fort of
the classic design of the era.
