What is the Ed Fund?

Mac Lab photo The Farallone View Education Fund, Inc., (the Ed Fund) is a nonprofit organization started in 1994 by a group of parents at Farallone View Elementary School who were concerned that cuts in state and district funds placed many school programs in danger of being reduced or eliminated.

The purpose of the Ed Fund is to secure and distribute funds from individuals, corporations, and foundations, and to raise funds by other means for the direct benefit of the students at Farallone View Elementary School.

Each and every year since the Ed Fund's creation, state and district funding has continued to be reduced. The ability to provide even core programs to students continues to be seriously threatened. Since 1994, the Ed Fund has raised over $500,000.00 for the benefit of our students. We work side by side with Farallone View principal, Site Council, and PTA to disburse the funds wisely and appropriately to assure our mission.

The mission of the Farallone View Education Fund is to ensure the quality of education at Farallone View by providing the essential financial support to maintain and improve existing and future programs.

There are several ways parents and the community can help us with our mission. The core of our fundraising activities and the easiest way to contribute, with no cost to you, is to use SCRIP. Last year we raised $35,000 through SCRIP with only 25% of the Farallone View families regularly participating. There are many changes in the SCRIP program this year to make it easier for all families to participate. Please find the way that works best for you, and commit to using SCRIP.

Direct monetary donations (which are always welcome) accounted for nearly one third of annual revenues in past years. Donations from individuals may be direct or, where available, through your United Way Fund campaign at work. Some local corporate employers even offer matching programs, thereby doubling your gift. If you're not sure about your company, please ask your employer. Every donation makes a difference, and of course, is tax deductible.

We welcome support from the business community, in the form of direct contributions and/or participation in our SCRIP program. The generosity of our local businesses has done much to enhance the quality of education in our schools.

The Ed Fund features two main annual fundraising events. The Pancake Breakfast, held near the beginning of each school year, is our way to welcome students and their families back to school and encourage support for the Ed Fund and our mission. This year's breakfast was held on September 28, 2002 at the school and we served 377 people! Our largest fundraiser, the Live and Silent Auction, raised over $20,000 and was incredibly entertaining! Those of you who missed it, missed a really great time! We had great food, great live music, fantastic decorations, and an awesome auctioneer! This year we made the Talent Show its own event because of the crowds. We had some concerns about not having enough people, but the turnout was bigger than ever! Special thanks to Pat Davidson and the PTA for taking over the production of this wonderful event!

The last and most important way to help is to get involved. There is always a need for more volunteeers, and by donating your expertise and resources, YOU can make a difference.
